Work Life:
In session, my goal is to empower clients to find their own way. Helping clients to develop an in-depth understanding of their values, ambitions, wants and needs helps set the goal posts of therapy. By understanding what really matters (or what makes us tick) we find the "why" which forms the motivation to challenge the distress, discomfort and behaviours that are part of the human experience. Utilising these and implementing various evidence behavioural strategies the goal is to develop and the skills and strategies to maintain mental well-being long change after sessions have stopped... even when life throws a curve-ball down the track.
Despite the fact that we are often dealing with serious issues, I try to take the approach of not taking myself too seriously. Where possible I try to bring my personality, and sense of humour (or lack thereof) into session. We are all human and being able to relate in a light hearted manner can be a great way of helping clients open up and get to the core issues at hand.
There are many other aspects of our lives (and health) we can improve in session. Taking a biopsychosocial, holistic approach to treating mental ill health will help you identify and understand the relationship between physical and mental well-being.
I split my time now between private practice and the corporate world consulting on mental health and the workplace. This helps me understand the “always on” mindset that is a major contributor to stress and anxiety for many people. I have also worked extensively with teenagers (12 and up) in high school settings navigating the minefield that is teenage life with the pressure of social media, social anxiety, interpersonal difficulties, HSC/study performance and transition into the workforce or university.
Work Life Balance:
I grew up on the NSW mid-north coast and have been based in Sydney for the most part after completing Uni in 2009. I have a passion for travel. I lived in the UK for several years in my 20’s and since then have gone on the odd hiatus’s backpacking and travelling the world. I hope this has shaped my world view positively while helping me appreciate where we live.
Having grown up (for the most part) playing and loving sport, I still play socially. I find keeping active helps improve and maintain my own well being.
